Introduction

1. Basic Information

Our department is the first Master’s degree authorization unit in the field of computer science and technology in Yunnan Province.  Grade-2 subjects “Computer software and theory” (1998) and “Computer application technology” 2000, the first grade subject “Computer science and technology” (2000), the professional Master’s degree “Computer technology”(2004),  two self-designed grade-2 subjects “Service science and engineering” (2013) and “Internet of things engineering”(2013) have been authorized successively. In 2011, our department was listed in new construction unit with first grade doctoral program in Yunnan “Twelfth five-year” plan.

In the subject, students should have a solid theoretical foundation and systematical professional knowledge, understand the professional technology situation and the development direction both at home and abroad, can perfectly using a foreign language for professional reading, writing, and international academic discussing, master the advanced technology in computer field, realistic and innovative spirit, to be involved in computer technology and system research, analysis, design, development, maintenance, testing, integration, and application of advanced engineering technology and management.

 

2. Training programs

Through studying the basic theory and professional knowledge in the field of computer science and technology, students should understand and pay attention to the latest technology development trends, master the necessary scientific research methods and skills, improve the scientific literacy and academic moral training, strengthen the ability of writing research papers, acquiring knowledge, scientific research, practice and innovation, ensure to be a good professional in scientific research and production practice after graduation.

    The subject adopts a flexible learning period, normally 2-4 years, not exceed 5 years. The time of course study and teaching practice is one and a half year; the paper work time is generally not less than 2 years. Course study use credit system, total credits are not less than 32 credits (including General course). Elective course should have at least 5 credits in addition to the required course.

    If someone finishes the specified study plan ahead of time, satisfy the request on Provisional Rules of the Graduation in Advance for Yunnan University Graduate Student, can apply for the dissertation (At least 2 years learning in the school) after approval by the competent department.

    Students complete the provisions of this training scheme in all kinds of learning (with credits), and pass through the dissertation, conform to the requirements of the degree, good conduct, can be awarded the Master Degree.

 

3. Main Research Fields

(1) Data and Knowledge Engineering

Data analysis and integration, knowledge representation and fusion, data, heterogeneous, huge amounts of data storage, query and exchange, big data processing calculation model, huge amounts of data mining and knowledge discovery, data management and analysis for cloud computing and big data, etc.

(2) Multimedia Information Processing

Image processing and virtual reality, computer vision, speech and emotion recognition, national culture, digital geographic information system, tourist information, image and video signal analysis, processing and recognition, speech synthesis, recognition and understanding, etc.

(3)  High performance computing and distributed computing

High performance computing, distributed computing, embedded system and the hardware and software collaborative design, bioinformatics, computer aided drug design, numerical simulation of atmospheric and disaster forecast, material technology, etc.

(4)  Software Engineering and Service Science

Software services science engineering and enterprise information, service oriented architecture and middleware, user interface, Web search based on data intensive computing, utility computing, outsourcing services, personalized recommendation, based on Web services and cloud computing of e-commerce, enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain management, enterprise application integration, etc.

(5) Computer Networks and Data Communication

Network engineering and information technology services, network communication theory, information source, channel coding and network coding, network architecture and protocol, network information processing and information security, and other basic theory, technology and application development.

Intelligent control, industrial control automation, complex system control, system stability study, field bus, etc.   


Information and Communication Engineering

Introduction

The discipline “Information and Communication Engineering” is a Level-1 Discipline in School of Information and Engineering, Yunnan University. It includes three level-2 disciplines:,  Communication and Information System(081001), Signal and Information Processing(081002) and The Internet of things engineering (0810z1).Communication and Information System,as a comprehensive specialty, belongs to electronic information discipline and has characristics of broad knowledge and wide application fields. The main research subjects are various communications and information systems based on information acquisition, information transmission and exchange, information networks, information processing and information control technology. It covers a very wide range fields, including telecommunications, broadcasting, television, radar, sonar, navigation, remote telemetry, remote sensing, electronic warfare, measurement, control and other fields, as well as various information systems in all sectors of the military and national economy.

Signal and information processing is an important part of information science, it includes the acquisition, conversion, storage, transmission, switching, and other aspects of signal processing and information, which considers the processing of signal and information as the main subject investigated. It explores the basic method of signals representation, analysis and synthesis; studies the Basic Approach and practical algorithms to extract information from the signals and pushes boundaries of information theory and new technology for codec of all kinds of signals. Information processing science and technology has penetrated into all fields including computer, communication, transportation, medicine, physics, chemistry, biology, military, economic and so on.

Internet of Things is the a Level-2 Discipline under Communication engineering, which makes the all independently addressable ordinary physical objects can be connected in one net based on the Internet and traditional telecommunications network and other information carrier. At present, the collection, transmission, processing and execution of Information between things can be realized due to the combination of computer technology, Internet technology and other technologies.

1. Educational Objectivs:

The program is aimed to produce graduates who: will be well developed morally, intellectually  and physically; grasp the basic knowledge, principles, methods and skills for Communication and Information System; known the research direction of Communication and Information System and related works home and abroad; master skills using a foreign language for professional reading, writing and international academic exchanges; master the computer and advanced technology; can be engage in analysis, design, development, maintenance , testing, integration and applications for communication equipment, systems and networks.

By learning basic theory and professional knowledge for Communication and Information System, the degree recipients master the literature of information retrieval and a certain capacity for scientific research and practical work, understand the latest technological developments, emphasis on training of scientific literacy and academic ethics, improve the ability to acquire knowledge and scientific research. Ensuring students become a successful professional in the research and production practice after graduation.

 

2. research directions

 

 (1)Network communication theory and technology

The main contents include: network communication theory, transmission and switching technology; optical fiber communication; Source Coding, channel coding and network coding; network architecture and protocols; network information processing and information security; smart grid communication technologies; basic theory of broadband access technologies; development of  technology and application etc.

 (2)The wireless communication theory and technology

The main contents include: Wireless communication networks; communication signal processing; biomedical signal processing and sensor technology; antenna design and RF technology; mobile communication; plan and optimization of mobile network; electromagnetic wave propagation theory; signal processing and wireless microwave technology; radio monitoring; hydroacoustic communication; wireless sensor networks; radio and television technology etc.

 (3)Processing of Image, voice signal and information

The main contents include: Analysis, processing and recognition of Images and video signal; embedded signal processing system design and development; speech synthesis; recognition and understanding; image processing and virtual reality; machine vision; national culture digital; multimedia and information security etc.

 (4)Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Information Processing

The main contents include: Multimedia information retrieval and processing; pattern recognition; neural networks; adaptive signal processing; embedded systems development; intelligent information processing and system development; medical imaging and telemedicine etc.

 (5)Signal Detection and Estimation

The main contents include: detection, identification and estimation of Signal; detection and processing of acoustic signal and radio astronomy; the new sensors etc.

 (6)System control and optimization

The main contents include: Intelligent control; industrial automation control; control technology of complex system; studies on system stability; control and simulation on power dispatching, computer-controlled technology.

Research direction of Internet of Things.

 (1)Things Object intelligent sense of control, analysis and treatment

The main contents include: Sensor technology and systems; modern signal processing; pattern recognition; machine intelligence; ubiquitous computing and cloud computing, massive data storage and processing; data analysis and processing; middleware etc.

(2)Transmission of Things

The main contents include: Network communication theory; transmission and switching technology; wireless and mobile communication technology; radio frequency technology; computer networks; wireless sensor networks; things networking technology; network integration technology.

(3)Applications of Things

The main contents include: Applications of Things in the transportation, medical, logistics and other fields.

 

3. Period of Study

Flexible educational system is put in use for the study of Communication and Information System.The Period of Study arranges from 2 to 4 years, cumulative time should be less than 5 years, which one year and a half are for Courses, teaching practice. The time for thesis should be less than two years.

For those who finished their study(required credits) ahead of learning programs, thesis defense can be approved thesis in advance if they meet the Interim Provisions for Yunnan University early graduation.

You could be granted a master's degree in engineering if the following conditions are met:

1. Complete the study specified in the training program(required credits);

2. Pass all exams for Communication and Information System;

3. Pass the oral defense successfully;

4. be on the straight;

Biomedical Engineering

Introduction

1.   Education objectives

Our major goal aims to cultivate talents with the combination of biology and medicine, electronic technology, computer technology and Information Sciences, professional knowledge and technical ability of scientific research, understanding the domestic and international development direction of the professional technology and proficiency in a foreign language for professional reading, writing, and the academic exchange, mastering computer and advanced technological means, with realistic spirit, working in biology, human information acquisition, analysis, processing and reconstruction, reorganization and diagnosis, medical equipment research, design, manufacture, development and operation.

We require students understanding and paying attention to the latest technology development trends, mastering the necessary scientific research methods and skills, with the ability to write scientific research papers. We focus on scientific literacy and academic moral culture, increasing the cultivation of knowledge acquisition ability, scientific research ability, practice ability, academic exchange ability and innovation ability, to ensure that graduates to become outstanding professionals in research and practice.

2. Research Areas

2.1 Medical Electronics

This direction aims to work in high altitude hypoxia environment on human physiology and pathology of the unique change mechanism, model and medical signal detection analysis research work; we are interested in the related physiological and pathological model, feature detection and recognition and computer automatic diagnosis, development of unique medical instrument products for plateau endemic diseases.

2.2 Medical image and Telemedicine

This direction aims to research digital biomedical information in wireless transmission in compression and computer aided measuring technology of fault tolerant technology, medical diagnostic information due to the remote mountainous region of Yunnan Province.

2.3 Medical genetics and Bioinformatics

This direction aims to solve social sciences problems such as ethnology by using molecular genetics methods to clarify genetic structure and characteristics of various ethnic groups, to explore their origins and their inter relationship.

2.4 Intelligent Computing in clinical biomedical engineering

This direction aims to combine the statistics, the epidemic and health statistics to carry out the research on the epidemic tendency of the endemic diseases in the border areas. Through the establishment of the simulation model, to carry out the computer clinical drug research, in order to reduce the cost of new drug development, shorten the research and development time, improve the treatment effect.

Control Science and Engineering

Introduction

1.Basic Profile

Control Science and Engineering is a discipline that mainly researches the control theory, method, technology and engineering application. The first-class discipline “Control Science and Engineering” includes four second-class disciplines: Control Theory and Control Engineering, Detection Technology and Automation Device, System Engineering, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System. In 2003, Yunnan University obtained the master degree-awarding powers on the two-class discipline of Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System. In 2006, Yunnan University obtained the master degree-awarding powers on the two-class discipline of Detection Technology and Automation Device. In 2012, Yunnan University obtained the engineering master degree-awarding powers on the discipline of Control Engineering.

3.Education System and Length of Schooling

Master's degree graduate student of this subject execute flexible education system. Length of schooling is usually two to four years. The maximum duration of the education should be no more than five years.

After accomplishing the courses with qualified scores required by this educational plan, passing the defense of the thesis, students are awarded the master degree of science.

(2) Speech, Image Recognition and Understanding

Research contents mainly includes: the speech synthesis, recognition and understanding for Southeast Asia and ethnic minority, the information processing for spoken and written languages of ethnic minorities, graphics and image information processing, machine vision, visual art science understanding, and national culture digitization, etc.

(3) Weak Signal Detection

Research contents mainly includes: microwave testing, biomedical signal detection and processing, radio astronomy signal detection and processing, underwater acoustic signal detection and processing, etc.

(4) Wireless Communication and Sensing Technology

Research contents mainly includes: wireless communication network, mobile communication technology, radio-frequency technique, mobile computing, spectrum sensing and radio monitoring, wireless broadband signal access, and new type sensor, etc.

(5) System Modeling, Analysis and Evaluation

Research contents mainly includes: complex system control theory, system identification and state estimation, the study of the nonlinearity, mobility, chaotic property of complex system, and flexible intelligent information processing, etc.
