Internet of Things
The Internet of Things(IoT) is the network of physical objects—devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. The IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit. When IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the technology becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber-physical systems, which also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, smart home, intelligent transportation and smart cities. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure.
In order to meet the increasing demand of Iot professionals, “Internet of Things Engineering” has been listed as one of the first undergraduate majors of new strategic emerging industries by Ministry of Education in 2010, and it has been officially approved to be founded in February, 2016 in School of Information Science and Engineering of Yunnan University which will recruit 30 students in September 2016 for the first time.
Major: Internet of Things
This major is an application subject which is a mutual osmosis and integration of computer science and technology, network engineering, electronic technique, information engineering, communication engineering and other subjects. Based on the IoT technology, the students will learn the knowledge about the perception layer(include sensor, Radio Frequency Identification, etc.), network layer(include sensor network, communication system, computer network, etc.) and application layer oriented to the industry application. Their ability of practical application and innovation will be cultivated. The talents in scientific research, management, production and other aspects will come out of the students for the next generation’s development of emerging information technology industry represented by the Iot and sensor network.
